Alyssa & Dayne 5.1.16
I rememeber meeting with Alyssa for the first time right before the wedding and chatting about the day. “There’s not going to be a DJ but we will have some people performing.” I thought alright, this is gonna be different but sweet. ( you know I’m all about different)
Fast forward to the reception and talking with the grooms mom and her telling me the story of Alyssa & Dayne and how they almost didn’t have a wedding.
They went hiking up in the palm springs mountains and an unexpected snow storm hit and they had lost the trail they were on to get back. Dayne’s phone had shut off because of the cold weather and he knew he had to warm up the phone to make one life saving phone call to get help. So he warmed up the phone under his armpit and made one call to 911 and told them that we were stranded out in the snow and couldn’t find their way back.
It was dark and late and freezing with snow falling all around. Dayne & Alyssa stayed in one spot waiting for help. They kept singing the Coldplay song – The scientist, over and over again to stay awake and most importanly stay alive.
“Nobody said it was easy
It’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start.”
The search team was able to find them and right in time because they had said just a couple more minutes and they might not have made it. This song and their love for eachother had kept them alive.
Hearing this story made me feel so much closer to this family and this beautiful couple. How did we get so lucky to meet them and that they choose us to capture their special day and be apart of their beautiful love story.
The grooms mother went on to tell me that one of the performances was going to be Dayne on the piano and singing that Coldplay song to Alyssa.
Everybody was in tears including Dayne trying to get through this song. This song that kept them alive when they thought all hope was lost, the song that kept both their hearts beating as both of their body tempartures were droping from the cold, the song they will forever remember that they sang because God said “this is not your time, and I am with you.”
The night went on to other beautiful performances by this amazing talented musical family. Dylan & I feel so blessed to have met you and sharing your story with us. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you both but what we do know is that God has big plans for you both! We wish you both nothing but happiness. Thanks for sharing your special day with us.
